Siem Reap Home Stay

Siem Reap Village Home-stay

At Trusted Cambodia Tours, we believe in giving back to the community, and supporting local people as much as possible. We work with local organizations as well as international organizations to make this possible.  Trusted Cambodia Tours is one of the sponsors of the NGO, Cambodia Development Organization for Children (CAMDOC). This center was founded by a local charity organization called Cambodia Development Organization (CAMDOC) and the German NGO, Cambodia Child Aid. The CAMDOC Training Center is located in Roeurl Commune in Puok District, about 25km from Siem Reap, and works to improve the education and health of poor children.

Our home-stay tours are located in this community, and guests have the opportunity to experience first-hand the culture of Cambodia by staying with a rural Cambodian family. You will be in an area surrounded by rice fields, and you can participate with the family as they engage in planting, harvesting or whatever the agricultural activity is at that time of year. Of course there will be livestock in the village, and they need to be tended to, and your assistance will be most appreciated.

Meals will be prepared in the traditional Cambodian style, and shared with the whole family.
You will see how they go about their daily lives, and see how they support each other. On school days, you can see the kids off to school. The best times of the year for a home-stay visit, are in the rainy season from June to Oct. for rice planting, and from October to January for harvesting. Also depending on the time of year, you may experience, and even participate in, festivals and ceremonies.

Along with your home-stay, you also have the chance to help your host family and the people of the village, by doing volunteer activities. You can help build a water well, or teach English, or use your special talent to provide help in the area you are interested in.

The sanitary facilities may be an outhouse, and bathing may be from a bucket, so a home-stay is not for everyone. But for those who do go on a home-stay program, it can be a rewarding and enriching experience, especially for families with children. We have had very positive feedback from our guests who have participated in a home-stay experience, and some guests still keep in touch with us.
